Diet Info

People often think of diet as some highly restrictive assortment of foods that is guaranteed to make anyone who tries it, miserable.  In fact, the word "diet" comes from the Greek work Diaita which means "way of life".  On so many levels, the diet you choose does determine your way of life.  This is true in terms of the way you habitually live (people who cook all their organic food are usually quite different from people who frequent fast food restaurants) but in a very real way, your diet will largely determine your present and future health.  Diet is a major factor in preventing or creating obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, and heart disease.  All of your energy and every molecule in your body come from the food you eat.  You literally are what you eat - where else would "you" come from?

Diet and medical nutrition are incredibly powerful tools in treating disease and in promoting health.  At its most basic level, food contains information and it imparts that information to your body every time you eat.  This information can heal or it can destroy.

That said, there is no perfect diet for everyone all the time. Different individuals have widely different nutritional needs and the same person has different nutritional needs depending on age, health or disease status, stress level, exercise habits, lifestyle factors, and genetic susceptibility.  Some patients handouts of therapeutic diets are accessible by clicking on the icons in the left hand menu.
