Anti-Candida Diet

In my clinical experience, one of the major problems in Candida eradication is that people are too severe in their diet, forcing the yeast into its cyst form, in which it can survive for years, and it becomes virtually immune to anti-fungal medications. When a “normal” diet is reintroduced, the yeast spores blossom and the Candida overgrowth problems begin all over again. It is far better to keep the yeast in a weakened but budding state so that antimicrobial therapies can have their full effect as the yeast bud and grow. Only then are they easy to kill and eradicate once and for all. The diet usually lasts 2-4 weeks, after which a normal diet may resume.

This diet works only in conjunction with anti-fungal herbs. The specific herbs to take should be prescribed on an individual basis by a qualified health care provider.

Eating 3 servings of fruit is essential for the success of this treatment as it forces the yeast to work harder and raises its metabolic rate, making it easier to kill with anti-fungal herbs. If you do not eat the whole fruit the yeast will simply shut down its metabolism and wait until you eat some small bit of tasty carbohydrate and simply resume where it left off. If you eat more than 3 servings of fruit, it is likely too much carbohydrate and the yeast will thrive.

Miscellaneous

  • Condiments, herbs, and spices without added sugar should be fine to use.
  • Alcohol is not recommended during the eradication, but theoretically modest amounts of dry wine or spirits should be tolerated.
  • Diet or sugar-free beverages upset the body’s water balance and should be avoided.
  • Drink water or unsweetened coffee, tea, or herb teas.
  • Probiotics like lactobacillus and bifidobacteria are also helpful, taken away from the antimicrobial herbs, with or without food.

While you may eat as much food as you like, most people lose weight on this diet, and so do not be alarmed if you find yourself losing a few kilos.
